New artist: Cassandra Yap

Originally from Singapore, Cassandra Yap is an illustrator and advertising art director based in London. Her work often explores the juxtaposition between dark and beautiful subjects to create the surreal. Fuelled by her love of pin ups, the female form and all things vintage, her illustrations are bold, dark and at times a tad kinky with a touch of humour thrown in. A member of Print Club, Cassandra's work has been featured in a number of exhibitions, including Print Club’s Blisters Blackout '10 show, the charity art event 'Ai Heart Japan' and 'Art Sells/Higher Pitch' 2011 with Village Underground.

Toyin Ibidapo February 2012

Photographer Toyin Ibidapo will be having her first exhibition this coming February...

There’s no such thing as perfect, but there’s perfection in the things we love.

"Now that I’ve looked back, looking through all these photographs, I recall each moment very vibrantly and vividly.  It’s strange to remember the shoots and to evoke the feelings.

Sometimes the light dictated the moods. I recollect the moments when I tried too hard to achieve an image in my head, that it wouldn’t translate till I stopped trying to force it.

I remember the quiet ones, the boys who left an imprint, the ones who were creative artists in their own right.  The ones with sadness so deeply buried, it couldn’t help but reveal on film.

These are my memories of youth."

Toyin Ibidapo lives and works in London, has been a professional photographer since 1997 for clients like Dazed & Confused and Alexander McQueen.  Her book The Cult of Boys was published by teNeues in 2011. The exhibition opens at Doors showcase, a new gallery in Shoreditch, on 24 February, continues until 24 March 2012.
