Yuko Kondo

Yuko Kondo graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2003 with an MA(hons) in Communication Art and Design. Since then he has worked full time as a freelance illustrator, art director and animator, who is fast becoming in demand with major brands and creatives alike for his vibrant and intelligent work. Yuko has spent the last eight years building up an impressive client base.

In 2006, Yuko received a D&AD nomination, which brought him to the attention of international brands such as Nike, Play Station, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and more.

Yuko participated in many exhibitions across Europe, USA and Japan and published his first book ‘Too Fat, Can’t Fly’.

Through his work, Yuko aims to ‘entertain’ the viewer, with his bold use of colour, pattern and repertoire of surreal and often darkly humorous characters. He takes much inspiration from the world of Pro-Wrestling.

When he was 15 years old his dream was to become a professional wrestler himself. He tried to go through the wrestling exam but he was to skinny and small at the time so his dream didn't come true. But he wouldn't give up and so he decided to express himself in a different way through the wrestling. He loves Mexican wrestling called “LUCHA LIBRE” meaning ‘free fight’. It’s totally entertainment style with colorful costume, masks and fun. Their performances are a lot acrobatic style that is really beautiful. These are roots for his works.
